Recently we were invited to visit and photograph the family of Sandro Mendoza Lazo and his family that dedicates itself to the ancient art of weaving in the town of Teotitlán del Valle. The town is located east of the city of Oaxaca and has evidence of weaving there since 500 BC. Over 500 years after the arrival of the Spanish, and before them, the Aztecs, most of the families in this town still speak their native Zapotec language. The work is done by hand using local, natural dyes that have been used for millennia. This gallery shows the life of a family living off of weaving in the ancient ways.
