We were invited to photograph a traditional dance troupe preparing for their annual Guelaguetza celebration in Mitla, Oaxaca, Mexico. The celebration is a pre-Columbian rite in which teams of dancers representing indigenous clans come from around the area and dance in the streets and a stadium. The team, known as Grupo de Danza de Didxsaj, meets at the home of their director, Oscar Sanchez. There they are dressed in multiple and complex layers of festival clothes that are traditional for their clan with in the Zapotec indigenous community. After documenting their preparation and food, we walked with them in the traditional parade route that ends up in the ruins of the pyramids at Mitla.
